We are pleased to announce that on Saturday 9 November 2024, the Grand Hotel Baglioni in Florence will host the CARDIOMYOPATHY DAY, an important opportunity to delve into all aspects related to this pathology, thanks to a rich series of events, debates and interventions by experts in the sector. An unmissable opportunity to share knowledge, experiences and new perspectives on the management of cardiomyopathies.
A training moment dedicated to all patients with hereditary myocardial diseases, to promote a new doctor-patient interaction and greater knowledge and management of the pathology.

On the afternoon of Saturday 9th November, starting at 14pm, the CARDIOMYOPATHY DAY will continue with an event dedicated to patients and family members, an opportunity for dialogue and sharing that puts patients' experiences at the center, offering them the opportunity to tell their stories, share testimonies and provide practical advice on managing the disease.

The definition of “Patient”, according to the FDA (USA) is: any person with, or at risk of, a specific health condition, whether or not receiving therapy to prevent or treat that condition. The concept of “expert patient”, introduced in 1985 by Professor David Tucket of the University of Cambridge, argues that treatments would be more effective if doctors considered patients as experts in their own diseases. The patient contributes his or her perception of the disease, experience of the therapies and his or her skills, collaborating with doctors and other health professionals. He or she can also share experiences with other patients.
The training of the “expert patient” in Hereditary Myocardial Diseases responds to the need for a new doctor-patient relationship, considering the higher cultural level, access to scientific information and sharing of clinical decisions required by international guidelines (Shared decision making). The expert patient participates in new collaborative models, contributing to the research and development of drugs with pharmaceutical companies and regulatory bodies.
AICARM believes it is essential to contribute to the formation of “expert patients” in Hereditary Myocardial Diseases. In the afternoon, numerous patients will tell and discuss their personal experiences.
The course will be held at:
Grand Hotel Baglioni
Piazza dell'Unità Italiana, 6 – Florence
(near S. Maria Novella Station)
Cardiac arrest is a dramatic event that could happen to anyone but that patients affected by Cardiomyopathy fear in a particular way. Saving the life of those affected by cardiac arrest is possible, and also reducing the consequences deriving from the lack of oxygenation of the brain and other organs, but it is essential to intervene immediately with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or CPR.
CPR consists of simple maneuvers that anyone can perform while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive for advanced resuscitation and immediate transport of the patient to a hospital facility.
These are simple maneuvers, but you need to know them and apply them without fear: in the event of cardiac arrest, only the unknown and inactivity should be scary.
Since the CPR course involves working on the ground with a mannequin to practice resuscitation maneuvers, and also the use of a defibrillator, everyone is recommended to attend wearing comfortable clothing.
