In this speech Prof Cecchi introduces the participants to the conference on hereditary diseases of the myocardium. It continues with a lesson on the genetic origins of cardiomyopathies, and the progress made in their diagnosis and treatment. The part of the lesson that explains how they spread over time and some areas of the globe with a particular concentration of patients were also very interesting. A synthetic introduction to the anatomy of the heart and its cellular structure could not be missing.
