Remote Monitoring Thematic Sheet

Dear friends of AICARM,
This thematic sheet has above all the nature of an instruction for the use of technological devices that have become increasingly important to ensure rapid and decisive interventions in the event of the onset of arrhythmias or worsening of cardiac compensation.

The eight questions and answers curated by Dr. Andrea Bernardini provide all the useful information on remote monitoring of patients with implantable devices, namely Defibrillators (ICD), Loop Recorders (ILR) or some models of pacemakers (PM).

The service allows the reference Hospital Center to perform a remote check of the integrity and correct functioning of the device. Since this is one of the most delicate examples of a close relationship between person and machine, the instructions of Dr. Bernardini, Director of Cardiology at the Santa Maria Nuova Hospital in Florence, whose clinical activity is aimed at the diagnosis and treatment of the main cardiac arrhythmias and cardiovascular prevention, therefore have the essential function of ensuring tranquility and safety for patients in everyday life. In the full awareness that monitoring is not an emergency service, but serves exclusively to reassure about the functioning of the device and to record and report any dangerous arrhythmias.

The President
Prof. Franco Cecchi
