The first good news: summer has arrived. Finally we will have lots of good fruit and vegetables, sweet, good and colorful. However, we must remember to take fluids in adequate doses, and in particular those who use vasodilator drugs, in order to avoid significant lowering of blood pressure (hypotension). Liquids that can be taken not only by drinking water, but also juices, tea, herbal teas, consuming fresh fruit and vegetables, and above all by often eating soups. The process for the donation to the Cardiomyopathies Unit (AOU Careggi), through the University of Florence, of a device that will help scientific research on Cardiomyopathies has been successfully concluded. Thanks to the generous donations of the associations CONALBE e DO.RI.TA., of the Zani family and with the contribution of AICARM ONLUS, it was possible to deliver to the Cardiomyopathies Unit an Ultra Cold (-80 °) portable freezer for the storage of biological samples for the international research project Sarcomeric Human Cardiomyopathy Registry (SHaRe).

The belief that everyone has the right to access the best therapies and assistance for the treatment of Cardiomyopathy is an essential foundation of our association. Just as we believe that everyone must be placed in a position to understand the diagnosis received in order to be able to consciously decide on their own therapeutic path. Unfortunately our health system, already tried by the still persistent pandemic, is unable to give all the necessary answers.

And the fact that Cardiomyopathy is considered a rare disease further complicates the life of the patient who does not find authoritative subjects with whom he can compare. AICARM ONLUS is working to fill this gap with the activation of a listening service aimed at patients with cardiomyopathy and their families. The service will be called Hearts Listening, the next will be activated October and will be carried out by volunteer expert patients and specialists. Users of the Hearts in Listening service will be able to call or write to receive free information and support in understanding and accepting their condition of Cardiomyopathy. Soon we will give all the details to access the service, in the meantime those interested in participating in the project as a volunteer can send an email to info@aicarm.it. Stay in touch with AICARM ONLUS because we will soon talk about Hearts in Listening.

Good summer!
