Prof. Flavio D'Ascenzi

He is Associate Professor of Sports Cardiology at the University of Siena. He graduated in Medicine in 2008 at the University of Siena, where he completed his specialization in Cardiology in 2014. He obtained his Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Umea, Sweden. He is Director of the School of Specialization in Sports Medicine and Physical Exercise and Director of the UO of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation.

He is currently the Secretary General of the European Society of Preventive Cardiology and Secretary of the Italian Society of Sports Cardiology. He was President of the European Nucleus of Sports Cardiology and Exercise. He is the author and co-author of over 200 articles on cardiology and sports cardiology and is co-author of guidelines and recommendations on the management of athletes with cardiovascular disorders.

His research activity is primarily aimed at the study of cardiomyopathies and arrhythmias in the population of professional athletes and sports subjects, in the context of primary prevention of sudden cardiac death. The prescription of physical exercise in patients affected by cardiac pathology represents another cornerstone of the research activity as well as pediatric sports cardiology, aimed at identifying the physiological electrical and structural remodeling of the heart of athletes.
