Dear friends of AICARM,
I open this newsletter with news that makes us proud because it tells of the Association's success beyond any legitimate expectation and paves the way for many other initiatives taken in the interest of our patients.
This result gives meaning and substance to our mission. The defense of patients' rights is a pillar of AICARM's activity. The Senate of the Republic has approved a agenda presented by sen. Paolo Marcheschi which commits the government to initiating all formal procedures to rapidly draw up national guidelines "concerning the issuing and/or renewal of driving licenses in the presence of patients with cardiomyopathies who have had a pace maker implanted and / or an implantable defibrillator (ICD)”.
Our vice-president Valerio Pelini talks about it more fully, who has long been committed to following this problem of no small importance for the daily lives of patients. I would like to underline two aspects of the senators' decision. First of all, this is the first time that Parliament has initiated the preparation of guidelines to manage crucial aspects of the rights of those suffering from pathologies, which paves the way for many important similar interventions. Secondly, the Senate document makes direct reference to the activity of AICARM and its commitment to patients, literally quoting the documents that the Association presented to the Legislative Body.
It is particularly satisfying to announce results of this kind, as well as to welcome the actress Giorgia Fiori, the new face of AICARM, of whom we are publishing an interview which is also the testimony of a battle won.
I wish everyone a peaceful August wherever you are to protect yourself from the heatwave.
The President
Prof. Franco Cecchi
