The first training course for patients experienced in hereditary diseases of the myocardium starts on Friday 5 November to continue on Saturday 6. The course was born under the sign of absolute novelty, at least for our country, and aims to train the figure of the patient capable of increasing the effectiveness of medical care as an expert in their pathologies. The initiative stems from the experience of the AICARM Onlus Association (Italian Association for the study and research of CARdioMiopathies), which aims to provide support to patients with Cardiomyopathy (Heart muscle disease), improve their quality of life and survival, spreading and increasing scientific knowledge in this field.

The need for the training of the "expert patient" in hereditary diseases of the myocardium derives in large part from the emergence of a new modality of doctor-patient interaction that takes into account the increased cultural level, the technological innovations that allow the dissemination of scientific information, and the sharing of diagnostic and therapeutic choices which is now constantly provided for in the Guidelines of international scientific societies (Shared decision making).

The need therefore emerges, AICARM underlines, to contribute to the training of the “expert patient” of hereditary diseases of the myocardium.
