Cardiomyopathy Day: New Formats for Our Community
Cardiomyopathy Day: New Formats for Our Community
Dear friends of AICARM,
I open this monthly meeting of ours by announcing an innovative initiative both from the point of view of the organizational model and from that of the nature of the events that we have scheduled. I am referring to the Day of Cardiomyopathies that will take place in Florence on November 9, 2024.
The first defibrillator in Riccione park
A young sports enthusiast, the stop imposed by the disease, the commitment to assist those who have contracted it. Filippo Cupparoni, a city councilor of Riccione, tells his story. Having entered politics at 22, he fought for the city administration to install automatic external defibrillators. The first was placed in the largest public park in the city in front of a basketball court and near a soccer field.
I will never forget that day

AICARM continues the open line with the book Il Cuore grande, publishing stories of the experiences lived by patients since they were diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. The care of communication between doctor and patient plays a central role in the success of a therapeutic plan as much as drugs, says Rossella. Words heal, they can bring relief or despair. “I like to think that the medicine of the future will also focus on this,” she adds.
Research and training, the Milan group
Research and training, the Milan group
Communication and support for patients were the first commitment of the Milanese volunteers. Then the investigation into the management of the genetic test, its availability, how it was proposed and how the data was presented. And then the work on the topic of psychological support. And many training courses for expert patients that recorded a great participation.

Campaign Viva! Week for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
AICARM has joined Long Live! Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Week (held between 14-20 October 2024), a national campaign that aims to promote knowledge of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers throughout Italy. The initiative, launched in 2013 by the Italian Resuscitation Council (IRC), was born in response to the invitation of the European Union and the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), with the aim of raising public awareness of the importance of knowing how to intervene promptly in the event of cardiac arrest. Through events, courses and information activities, the campaign Viva! aims to save lives by spreading the culture of life-saving maneuvers among citizens.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation courses funded by AICARM
The project of the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation CPR Courses for high school students, funded by AICARM, has begun in Milan. With the precious collaboration of the trainers of the Auxologico Institute of Milan, coordinated by Dr. Gerardina Fratianni, and together with the AICARM members of Milan, the first Course for high school students was held on September 27, with considerable appreciation from the students and their teachers. The next two appointments are scheduled for December 5.
Events in Rome and Florence sponsored by AICARM
AICARM has sponsored two very important events in the field of cardiology: the National Congress “Rome Cardiomyopathies”, which will be held on 18 and 19 October 2024 at the National Congress Centre in Rome, and the Masterclass on Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy, scheduled in Florence on November 26 and 27.
Il Rome Cardiomyopathies Congress
An important training opportunity aimed at strengthening collaboration between cardiologies involved in the management of heart muscle diseases and rare cardiac pathologies. The event promotes the exchange of clinical experiences and skills between the main Italian schools of cardiology, with the aim of promoting professional growth and the creation of a network dedicated to the management of cardiomyopathies.
La Masterclass Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy
It will be held in Florence and aims to provide participants with a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of this disease, based on the experience of over 40 years of the Careggi University Hospital. The masterclass, enriched by the participation of experts from different Italian institutions, ranges from basic sciences to cardiac surgery, from genetic diagnosis to new pharmacological options for the treatment of left ventricular obstruction. The event will include interactive workshops in which small groups will analyze clinical, genetic and imaging cases, with the aim of addressing the discrepancies between guidelines and real clinical practice. The initiative also aims to train specialized teams at a national level for the care of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
