First of all, I'm happy to share some good news. AIFA informed me that the shortage of Ritmodan and Ritmodan Retard was being resolved. We discuss this in an article that summarizes the situation and highlights the specifics of the drug shortage.

Ritmodan Shortage: A Timeline of Our Commitment to Cardiomyopathy Patients

Since the beginning of the year, AICARM has been closely monitoring a situation that goes beyond the pharmacological emergency: the prolonged unavailability of Ritmodan (disopyramide), a key drug for the treatment of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. On July 8, it was announced that the drug's distribution is returning to normal, but the shortage of essential medications is no longer an isolated issue, but rather a systemic reality that severely impacts the most vulnerable patients.

Dr. Pedemonte's venture: sport and support for AICARM

Dr. Andrea Pedemonte, a surgeon about to complete his specialization in Sports Medicine, deeply believes in sport as a catalyst for positive values, and for this reason he decided to be a champion of this. He therefore planned a sporting venture that also included a fundraiser for AICARM.

Summer Safe with Cardiomyopathy

A practical and concrete meeting, the last before the summer break, addressed the most important issues for those living with cardiomyopathy during the holidays. Dr. Niccolò Maurizi, a cardiologist and cardiomyopathologist, and Francesca Musso, a patient expert and creator of the Instagram page (@livingwiththesicd), shared practical tips for living a safe summer: from managing the heat to physical activity, from traveling with a defibrillator to proper summer nutrition.

Microplastics threaten heart health

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2024 by the Naples team demonstrates for the first time that plastic particles from bottles, bags, cosmetics, and clothing, etc., can enter the arteries and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke. How can you protect yourself? Drink from glass or filtered bottles, use less single-use plastic, buy clothing made of natural fibers like cotton and linen, clean frequently to remove dust, and eat more fresh foods.

On Saturday 27th September at the Hotel Poggio del Sole in RAGUSA the TRAINING COURSE FOR EXPERT PATIENTS IN HEREDITARY MYOCARDIAL DISEASES. At the same time, Dr. Gaetano Giarratana will hold a CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION COURSE Dedicated to family members of patients with cardiomyopathy. Book presentation "The Big Heart" – Vittoria, September 26, 2025

On the occasion of the training courses in Ragusa on Saturday 27 September, in the late afternoon of Friday 26 September the Soroptimist Club Vittoria organize a meeting where the book will be presented THE BIG HEART – published by AICARM – with the reading of some stories extracted from the work.

The Heart of Women – Save the Date

AICARM organizes the conference WOMEN'S HEARTS: Differences in cardiomyopathies, too promoted in collaboration with the Soroptimist Club Firenze 2, as part of the CURAR-SI project on Gender Medicine.
The in-person course will take place on November 8, 2025 in the SALONE BRUNELLESCHI – ISTITUTO DEGLI INNOCENTI FLORENCE.

Listening Hearts: Collaboration with psychologist Marina Cacchionni begins

AICARM is pleased to announce that starting next autumn the help desk Hearts Listening will benefit from the professionalism and expertise of psychologist Dr. Marina Cacchionni, registered with the Tuscan Register of Psychologists. This collaboration stems from Cacchionni's desire to support those coping with heart disease, a multifactorial condition in which the mind plays a vital role.
