Drug Shortage, Let's Tackle the Ritmodan Emergency
Dear friends of AICARM,
The Italian Medicines Agency has reported a shortage of Ritmodan100 and Ritmodan Retard 250, essential drugs for the prevention and treatment of arrhythmias, and used according to guidelines, also in patients with Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy, produced by the German pharmaceutical company Cheplapharm Arzneimittel Gmbh. This is not the first time that we have faced the case of a blackout in the supply of an essential component in the treatment of heart disease.
Ritmodan Shortage: AIFA Monitors, AICARM Defends Patient
In recent days, the Italian Medicines Agency has communicated the shortage of Ritmodan used for the prevention and treatment of arrhythmias. The Agency reports that supplies are expected to resume at the end of the summer and in the meantime has implemented a strategy based on monitoring the remaining stocks and on an alternative dosage. AICARM was among the first to report the shortage and is closely following the situation to meet the needs of patients.
When sport together with others is part of the cure
When sport together with others is part of the cure
Great success for “Pedalando con il cuore”, a two-day e-bike tour through the Crete Senesi organized by AICARM. The pilot project involved 10 participants, 7 of whom had Cardiomyopathy and 3 of them with ICD, invited with specific criteria and followed by specialized doctors. It was not just a sporting event – say three participants, Marco, Sandro and Salvatore – but a moment of authentic sharing, of rebirth, of hope. It is the demonstration that some patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy can perform even moderate physical activity.
The beauty of a project that grows to help people
The beauty of a project that grows to help people
A long-time journalist and writer, especially an expert in economic information, Piero Meucci explains why he agreed to direct the AICARM newsletter since the Association was founded. The initial motivation is the willingness to contribute to the birth of new information projects, especially if these can be of help to people's daily lives. Then comes the satisfaction of having contributed to creating a reality that grows and becomes the point of reference for a large community.
Hereditary Cardiomyopathies: When Feelings of Guilt Take Over
Hereditary heart disease can cause patients to feel guilty, which can affect their quality of life, especially when it comes to parenting choices. This is also confirmed by a recent study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, which analyzed the emotional impact of hereditary heart disease on 128 patients, with an average age of 51. With the right emotional and medical support, it is possible to make informed choices and build a life that reflects one's values.
