The Assembly of March 30, a fundamental moment in the life of our community

Dear friends of AICARM,

the most important event of this month is the annual meeting of members on March 30th. The meeting of all the members of an association like ours is a crucial moment to consolidate what we have done so far and enrich a program that has become increasingly broader and more articulated thanks to the daily work of our volunteers and the services we have created .

Above all, the assembly is an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of collaboration and sharing of our community of patients, doctors and family members, as well as the passion and enthusiasm of all who have allowed us to grow Aicarm, until it becomes a reality present and also recognized at an international level. For this reason we recommend that all members participate with the aim of giving the widest possible contribution of ideas and suggestions.

In this same month, one of our training courses is taking place in Florence to learn the practices of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of the semi-automatic external defibrillator (AED). The main mission of Aicarm is, in fact, to disseminate technical knowledge and sensitivity to deal with critical situations with competence and awareness in which patients may find themselves.

The impact of diagnosis on children and adults: the search for a new balance

Guendalina Rossi - Viareggio

"The diagnosis of a pathology such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is like an earthquake that upsets the balance of the person receiving it and of his entire family environment".

This is how Guendalina Rossi, psychiatrist and psychotherapist, made her debut, speaking at the "Training course for expert patients in hereditary myocardial diseases" organized by Aicarm in Viareggio (28/1/'23).

The concept of "expert patient" is fundamental today for the scientific community, it implies that treatments are all the more effective, the more those who receive them show awareness of their condition, not only from a clinical point of view, but also from a psychological point of view.

Reception and listening: the mission of the expert patient

Interview with Primo Botti, AICARM volunteer

Table, chair, computer and every Thursday afternoon Primo Botti, an Aicarm volunteer, is there, at the Careggi Cardiomyopathies Unit: medical clinic, pavilion 13, second floor.

His role is an integral part of the doctor-patient approach that is increasingly developing in this context and which consists of listening, talking to patients and giving them support.

CPR course on March 25 in Florence at the association's headquarters

AICARM suggests that family members of patients with cardiomyopathy acquire the skills to correctly apply Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by participating in specific training courses organized periodically to learn CPR practices and the use of the semi-automatic external defibrillator (AED). For this purpose, it organizes courses that are periodically held at the headquarters. The next course is scheduled for March 25 from 8,30 to 13 (consult the website www.aicarm.it)
CPR maneuvers are simple, but you need to know them and apply them without fear: in the event of cardiac arrest, only inactivity should be frightening, and be ready to act quickly and call for help. For this reason it is important to acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge of CPR. A person with cardiomyopathy has a relatively low, but still higher chance of cardiac arrest than the general population.
Participation in the courses is free. Registration is mandatory. To find out more and register for the course: CPR course – Saturday 25 March – Florence

March 25 2023 – at the headquarters of AICARM Onlus, via dello Studio, n.5 – Florence, second floor, from 8,30 to 13.00 – Max 12 participants.
