Tuscan law for the prevention of sudden cardiac death: it's the first in Italy.
The Regional Council of Tuscany has unanimously approved a law to prevent sudden cardiac death among young people. It is the first Italian region to adopt a comprehensive model integrated into healthcare and education systems.
The measure, also developed with the Careggi Cardiomyopathy Unit led by Professor Iacopo Olivotto (member of the AICARM Scientific Committee), provides screenings in high schools and resuscitation courses.

The Regional Council of Tuscany has unanimously approved a law that aims to prevent sudden cardiac death (SCD) among young peopleA measure resulting from a long period of study, supported by the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and the Monasterio Foundation, in the person of Prof. Michele Emdin, in collaboration with the Intercompany Centre for Innovation and Research for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cardiomyopathies of Careggi directed by Professor Iacopo Olivotto, member of the Scientific Committee of Aicarm.

Measure concrete
The new Tuscany Region law provides a series of concrete, scientifically validated measures designed to intervene before the risk turns into tragedy. It starts with: cardiac screening in high schools, through digital ECGs and personalized clinical questionnaires, up to cardiopulmonary resuscitation courses dedicated to students and school staff, with the issuing of official certifications.

The law also provides for the establishment of the Regional Registry of Sudden Cardiac Death, a database that will allow for the systematic study and monitoring of the phenomenon and the creation of a regional technical commission to evaluate the effectiveness of the policies implemented.

Aicarm expresses its satisfaction with the approval of the measure and declares its willingness to actively participate in its implementation. The law provides an important institutional framework for the Association's activities, which has recently implemented numerous initiatives in the area of sudden cardiac death prevention. Among these are the numerous cardiopulmonary resuscitation courses held in high schools in Milan and those for families of patients with cardiomyopathy, held in numerous Italian regions. Institutional attention to these issues is therefore extremely important, in line with AICARM's projects and goals.
