Ritmodan Shortage: Situation Improving, but Specific Procedures Still Needed

Update for patients

AIFA – AICARM Press Release – June 2025

GOOD NEWS: AIFA has informed us that, contrary to initial forecasts, stocks of Ritmodan 100 and Ritmodan Retard 250 are not exhausted as communicated by Avas Pharmaceuticals (distributor for Italy).

The situation is improving with the arrival of new batches, expected in the coming weeks.

However, it is necessary for patients and pharmacists to follow specific procedures to ensure the availability of the drug.

What to do if you can't find the medicine in the pharmacy

AIFA has clarified that the drug is available but it requires a specific order. If your pharmacy tells you it is not available, follow this procedure:

1. Request direct order

Ask the pharmacist to proceed with a direct order to AVAS distributor. AIFA has already provided all pharmacies, through the Trade Associations, with updated contacts to place these orders.

2. If the pharmacy does not cooperate

If the pharmacy does not have the contact list or does not want to proceed with the direct order:

3. Change pharmacy if necessary

Not all pharmacies may be able to follow this procedure. Try other pharmacies in your area.

Useful resources

AIFA has published the booklet “NON SI FIND” (NOT FOUND) which explains to pharmacists, doctors and patients what to do when a medicine is missing. Find the link here, read it because you will find useful information:

Replacement scheme still valid

During this transition phase, the therapeutic regimen developed by AIFA together with AICARM, SIC and ANMCO to replace Ritmodan 250mg Retard formula with Ritmodan 100mg remains valid. You can find the therapeutic regimen on our website here:

Important: Always consult your doctor before changing your therapy.
