Dear friends of AICARM,
We're resuming our monthly discussion earlier than usual to promptly bring you news and a September event that represent two important steps forward in our commitment to spreading a culture of prevention of the potential consequences of various forms of cardiomyopathy.
The Tuscany Region was the first in Italy to approve a law for the prevention of sudden cardiac death among young people.

Tuscan law for the prevention of sudden cardiac death: it's the first in Italy.

The Regional Council of Tuscany has unanimously approved a law to prevent sudden cardiac death among young people. It is the first Italian region to adopt a comprehensive model integrated into healthcare and education systems.

The measure, also developed with the Careggi Cardiomyopathy Unit led by Professor Iacopo Olivotto (member of the AICARM Scientific Committee), provides screenings in high schools and resuscitation courses.

From book to documentary: "A Big Heart" arrives at the cinema

Following the success of the book "Il Cuore Grande," published by AICARM and featuring the stories of twenty patients with cardiomyopathy and their families, the first documentary film dedicated to these conditions is now available, featuring four testimonies from three new patients and two family members. "Un Cuore Grande," written by Donatella Romani and directed by Roberto Amato, successfully premiered at the 4 Giffoni Film Festival. Aicarm President Franco Cecchi and the documentary's protagonists were then interviewed on stage and answered numerous questions from the young audience.

AICARM Launches Training for Experienced Patients in Sicily

On September 27th in Ragusa, a course dedicated to understanding and supporting those with cardiomyopathy will take place.

For the first time, the AICARM association is bringing its consolidated experience in training patients with cardiomyopathy to Sicily. On September 27, 2025, the Training Course for Expert Patients in Hereditary Myocardial Diseases will be held at the Hotel Poggio del Sole in Ragusa. Over 500 patients and their families in other cities have already participated, improving their ability to live with cardiomyopathy.

Saturday 27 September at the Hotel Poggio del Sole in A TRAINING COURSE FOR PATIENTS EXPERTS IN HEREDITARY MYOCARDIAL DISEASES will be held in Ragusa.. At the same time, Dr. Gaetano Giarratana will hold a CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION COURSEDedicated to family members of patients with cardiomyopathy. The Heart of Women – Save the Date

AICARM organizes the conference WOMEN'S HEARTS: Differences in cardiomyopathies, too promoted in collaboration with the Soroptimist Club Firenze 2, as part of the CURAR-SI project on Gender Medicine.

The in-person course will take place on November 8, 2025 in BRUNELLESCHI HALL – INNOCENTI INSTITUTE, FLORENCE.
